Exploring Systemic Grief
Grief is shaped by the systems and conditions we live in.
Communities living at the sharp end of inequality and injustice have long understood how systems shape grief. The places we live, learn, and work in, and the ways we relate to one another, are inextricably connected with questions of grief, equity and justice.
We think Systemic Grief has the potential to transform recognition of grief into a source of collective empowerment, generated and held in the hands of those who have lived it.
questions guiding our inquiry
-
We're exploring whether systemic grief helps people make sense of the relationship between grief, loss, equity and justice, and whether it offers a useful way of understanding grief as more than a private or individual experience.
-
If grief is shaped by the systems and conditions in which we live, what would help community leaders, organisations and institutions engage with these ideas in meaningful, practical and equitable ways?
-
How can we create spaces that respect lived experience, minimise harm and support meaningful participation when exploring grief at a collective and systemic level?
Our inquiry is being developed in dialogue with communities, practitioners and organisations.
